Import a CSV statement

Open More, then Import Statement, choose your CSV, check the preview for dates, amounts and direction, and confirm only when the rows look right.

Before you start

Export a CSV from your bank, card or broker website or app. Most banks offer it under statements or transaction history. Save it to Files or iCloud Drive so SampattiTrack can open it. Create the account the transactions belong to first (see Accounts and hierarchy), because every imported row goes into one account.

Import a file

  1. Open More and choose Import Statement.
  2. Under Import Bank / Card CSV, tap Choose CSV and pick your file. The file is read on your device and never leaves your phone.
  3. Choose the account the rows belong to in Import into.
  4. Check the rows under Staged transactions, as described below.
  5. Tap Import, which shows how many transactions will be added.

Check the rows before you import

Nothing is saved until you tap Import, so this is the moment to catch problems:

  • Dates. Make sure the dates match your statement. Rows without a readable date are skipped, and the app tells you how many.
  • Direction. Money out should show as spending and money in as income.
  • Category. Each row shows where the money goes. Change it if it is wrong, or leave the row out.

Rows marked Possible duplicate look the same as a transaction already in that account. Leave them out if you imported the same period before.

After you import

The new transactions appear under Transactions and change your balances right away. Open the account and compare its balance with the closing balance on your statement. If they differ, look for skipped rows, duplicates you left in, or an opening balance you have not entered.

If something goes wrong

The file won't read.

The file needs a header row with a date column and an amount, debit or credit column. Open it in a spreadsheet app, delete any lines above the header and save it again as CSV.

Wrong dates or directions.

Delete the imported rows from Transactions, fix the file in a spreadsheet app and import again.

Imported twice by mistake.

Delete the duplicates from Transactions. Next time, leave out rows marked as possible duplicates.

Only CSV files are covered here. For broker trade files, import the CSV into your brokerage account, then check the quantity and price on each trade in the Portfolio.
