iCloud sync

Switch on Live CloudKit Sync in Settings, then Backup & Restore, signed in to the same Apple ID on each device; your ledger syncs through your private iCloud.

What syncs

With iCloud sync on, your accounts, transactions, units, tags, budgets, goals and recurring rules stay in step across your iPhone and iPad. They travel through your own private iCloud database, which the developer cannot read. Prices are not synced; each device looks up its own. Receipt photos stay on the device where you added them.

Turn it on

  1. On every device, sign in to the same Apple ID and make sure iCloud is on for SampattiTrack in iOS Settings, under your name, then iCloud.
  2. Open Settings in SampattiTrack, go to Data & Backup and tap Backup & Restore. The Backup & Sync sheet opens.
  3. Switch on Live CloudKit Sync. CloudKit is Apple's iCloud technology; it is just the name of the switch.
  4. Read CloudKit Status. It says Connected & Ready when sync is working and Disabled when it is off. Last Synced shows the time of the latest sync.
  5. Repeat on your other device. The first sync of a large ledger can take a few minutes.

After that it runs on its own: when you open the app, after you make changes, and when another device changes something. Tap Sync iCloud Now if you want it right away.

Troubleshooting: data is not appearing on my other device

  • Check that both devices use the same Apple ID and are online.
  • In iOS Settings, under your name, then iCloud, confirm SampattiTrack is allowed to use iCloud.
  • On both devices, open the Backup & Sync sheet and look at CloudKit Status and Last Synced. If a message mentions a problem, note it for support.
  • Tap Sync iCloud Now on the device that has the data, then on the empty one.
  • Still different? Tap Reconcile everything again. It re-checks every record against iCloud and uploads or downloads whatever differs. Nothing is deleted and it is safe at any time; it just uses more data than a normal sync.
  • Keep the app open for a few minutes on a good connection while a large ledger finishes its first sync.

When the same item is edited on two devices before they sync, the most recent change wins. Avoid editing the same transaction on two devices at once.

Switch sync off or move devices

Turning Live CloudKit Sync off stops sending changes. Your data stays on each device. Before changing phones, make a backup file as well, so you always have a copy that does not depend on iCloud.

Delete the synced copy

Deleting the app removes the local ledger from that device only. If sync was on, a copy remains in your iCloud. To remove it:

  1. Open iOS Settings and tap your name, then iCloud.
  2. Tap Manage Account Storage (or Storage on some versions of iOS), then SampattiTrack.
  3. Tap Delete Data and confirm.

Do this only when you are sure. Without a backup or another device holding your ledger, deleted data cannot be recovered. SampattiTrack cannot see or restore it for you.

Privacy

Record names in iCloud are hashes, and the details are stored in encrypted fields. The app contacts the internet only for public prices and fund search, and those requests do not include your ledger. The privacy policy has the full details.
