Recurring payments and subscriptions

Add a recurring rule to post a payment on a schedule, and open Subscriptions to see repeating charges detected from your expenses.

Add a recurring rule

A recurring rule posts a transaction on a schedule, so rent, a loan EMI or a SIP records itself. You enter it once; SampattiTrack adds each occurrence when it falls due.

  1. On Home, tap Add, then Recurring ("Scheduled bill or subscription"). You can also open More, then Recurring, and tap the add button.
  2. Enter the amount under Recurring Amount and a Description / Label.
  3. Choose the Frequency: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly.
  4. Pick Paid From (the account the money leaves) and the Category it is filed under.
  5. Set Starts On and tap Create Recurring Rule.

Open More, then Recurring to see every rule with its next run date, the estimated monthly cost and the number of active and paused rules. Each rule has Edit and Delete options. A paused rule stays in the list but does not post.

Rules post their transactions when you open SampattiTrack, so open the app now and then to keep them up to date.

Find your subscriptions

You do not have to enter subscriptions by hand. Open More, then Subscriptions. SampattiTrack scans your expense history and lists payments that repeat at regular intervals, along with the estimated monthly cost, the yearly total and the next expected date.

Detection needs at least three transactions with the same description to an expense account at regular intervals. If something is missing, check that the payee is typed consistently, for example "Netflix" every time rather than "NETFLIX.COM" once and "Netflix" another time.

Spot subscription creep

Small charges add up. Use the Subscriptions screen to compare the monthly and yearly totals, and cancel what you no longer use. SampattiTrack can also flag duplicate charges and price rises on recurring payments so they stand out.

Recurring rule or detected subscription?

  • A recurring rule creates the transactions for you. Use it for rent, EMIs, SIPs and any payment that happens without you doing anything.
  • A detected subscription is only a report on transactions you already logged. It never posts anything.

If you add a rule for something that is already being logged by hand or by an import, you will get duplicates. Choose one way to record each payment.

Tips

  • Use a clear label such as "Rent" so the rule is easy to spot in the list and in search.
  • When a price changes, edit the rule instead of creating a new one so the history stays in one place.
  • For a credit card bill, see Credit cards and bills.
